A Submillimeter View of Star Formation near the H Ii Region Kr 140
We present the results of 450 and 850 µm continuum mapping of the H II region KR 140 using the SCUBA instrument on the JCMT. KR 140 is a small (5.7 pc diameter) H II region at a distance of 2.3±0.3 kpc. Five of the six IRAS point sources near KR 140 were mapped in this study. Our analysis shows that two of these IRAS sources are embedded late B type stars lying well outside the H II region, two...
متن کاملUnderstanding our Origins : Star Formation in H ii Region Environments
Recent analysis of the decay products of short-lived radiounclides (SLRs) in meteorites, in particular the confirmation of the presence of live Fe in the early Solar System, provides unambiguous evidence that the Sun and Solar System formed near a massive star. We consider the question of the formation of low-mass stars in the environments of massive stars, presenting a scenario for the evoluti...
متن کاملTriggered Star Formation in a Double Shell near W51a
We present Heinrich Hertz Telescope CO observations of the shell structure near the active starforming complex W51A to investigate the process of star formation triggered by the expansion of an H II region. The CO observations confirm that dense molecular material has been collected along the shell detected in Spitzer IRAC images. The CO distribution shows that the shell is blown out toward a l...
متن کاملStellar populations in local star - forming galaxies . II . - Recent star formation properties and stellar masses
We present the integrated properties of the stellar populations in the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) Survey galaxies. Applying the techniques described in the first paper of this series, we derive ages, burst masses and metallicities of the newly-formed stars in our sample galaxies. The population of young stars is responsible for the Hα emission used to detect the objects in the UCM ...
متن کاملThe H Ii Region of a Primordial Star
The concordance model of cosmology and structure formation predicts the formation of isolated very massive stars at high redshifts in dark matter dominated halos of 10 to 10M⊙. These stars photo-ionize their host primordial molecular clouds, expelling all the baryons from their halos. When the stars die, a relic H II region is formed within which large amounts of molecular hydrogen form which w...
